Wheless Lab
Nearly half of all skin cancer patients will be treated for more than one skin cancer, and some can even have more than 100. Patients with high numbers of skin cancers are more likely to develop one that is metastatic or fatal and may have an increased risk of developing internal cancers as well.
Led by Dr. Lee Wheless, the Wheless Lab focuses on identifying these patients earlier, exploring the mechanisms by which this happens, and generating novel paths forward to prevent and reduce the morbidity and mortality from skin cancer.
To achieve these goals, The Wheless Lab takes advantage of large datasets including the Million Veteran Program, All of Us, and Vanderbilt’s Synthetic Derivative and BioVU to incorporate multiple types of data using innovative and cutting-edge computer informatics that they develop within the lab.
